Imaging services at health and social services centres

Native X-ray examinations and ultrasound examinations are carried out at the local imaging locations at the health and social services centres. Mammograms and bone density measurements are also carried out at the Lahti service point.

A native X-ray means a basic X-ray examination, such as a chest X-ray or imaging of bones for suspected fractures or follow-up.

Do the following:

After receiving a referral from your doctor, book an appointment at the imaging service point. The patient instructions you received will describe how to prepare for the examination.

If you know or suspect you are pregnant, inform your doctor or nurse so they can consider using an alternative imaging modality.

In public health care, a physician’s referral is always required for imaging examinations. Private service providers offer imaging services also without referral.

A doctor’s referral is required for all imaging examinations. For imaging examinations in specialised medical care, you will need a referral from the specialised care clinic.
